Case history Reprized Rullah "Chappy"
Three-Year-Old Thoroughbred Race Horse Gelding
Chappy
experienced intense nervousness and profuse sweating just prior to race
time. His trainers, Michael D'Angelo and Laura Buena Ventura, knew he
was a talented horse who trained well but he was unable to place during
a race. Chappy seemed to expend all of his energy in an anxious, nervous
sweat just prior to racing, and then would wash out and fall back during
the race. The trainers described Chappy as physically fit overall, but
it was difficult to maintain his body weight and he had a history of
stomach ulcers. His coat never quite dappled out despite a well balanced
diet. In addition to his race time nervous sweats, Chappy’s behavior
was described as studdish, obnoxious and grumpy. He would stand at his
stall door and make grumpy faces at passers by. The activity in the barn
seemed to make him anxious and prevented him from resting fully.
After
a full evaluation with Garland, a custom formula was developed specifically
for Chappy’s unique set of physical and behavioral/emotional symptoms.
Chappy began with a dose of two tablespoons morning and evening for one week,
reduced thereafter to one tablespoon per day. After just a few days on the formula,
Laura reported that Chappy was much calmer and able to focus on his workouts.
Two weeks later, he won his first race. Chappy has continued to consistently
win or place, much to the delight of his owner and trainers. In addition, his
trainers report that he is able rest quietly in his stall during the day.
