​I’ve been so lucky to share life with some incredible elder ponies, my own 32-year-old Rocotillo among them.

​Recently I even had the privilege of taking a dressage lesson on Mystic, a 35-year-old Thoroughbred with quite a résumé: the racetrack, hunter and dressage training, even a little barrel racing and ranch work!

Despite his years, Mystic is light, responsive, and generous, helping me refine my hands, seat, and aids (while I work on unlearning a few of my 50-year-old “habits” ).
