FALL IS LUNG SEASON IN TCM!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is the season of the lungs and breath, a time to support clear airways and strong immunity. For our horses, that means paying extra attention to respiratory health as the air turns cool and barn time increases.

Here are a few ways to help your herd breathe easy this season:
-Feed low-dust hay or steam/soak hay before feeding.
-Improve ventilation in barns and stalls, fresh air keeps lungs happy.
-Reduce dust by cleaning aisles and using low-dust bedding.
-Encourage hydration to keep airways moist and clear.

Up to 80% of stabled horses show signs of airway inflammation from barn dust and poor ventilation, but small changes make a big difference.

Support your horse’s lungs naturally with Whole Horse Herb's and our  Breathing Right formula, a gentle herbal blend that promotes clear, easy breathing all season long.

Get one of our favorite wintertime herbal recipes below, your horse will thank you!

Herbs can be deeply supportive to horses during the cold months. Offering a cup of warm herbal tea in your horse’s grain bucket is a yummy, therapeutic way to warm them from the inside out!

 Try this cozy recipe:
-1 tbsp lemon balm
-1 tbsp goji berries
-1 tsp dried hawthorn berries
-1 cinnamon stick
-½ tsp licorice root

Bring 1 quart of water to a boil, add herbs, and simmer 3–5 minutes. Let cool to warm, strain (and compost the herbs!), then pour the tea over your horse’s supplements or hay pellets.

Winter Barn Readiness Checklist

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, it’s time to get your barn, your horses, and yourself ready for winter. A little preparation now makes for a smoother, safer, and healthier season ahead.

Here are a few key ways to prepare:
 1. Fill your hay barn: Stock up before winter storms and price spikes hit. Make sure bales are stacked off the ground and protected from moisture.

 2. Winterize your arena: Improve drainage, check footing depth, and consider dragging or leveling before the rains start.

 3. Reduce mud in high-traffic areas: Add gravel, mats, or footing around gates, water troughs, and feeding zones to keep your horses’ hooves healthy and your chores easier.

 4. Check water sources: Insulate or heat troughs and hoses so your herd always has fresh, unfrozen water.

5. And don’t forget to support your horse’s health from the inside out.
Stock up on your favorite wintertime Whole Horse Herbs formulas:

Easy Mover ™ - to keep joints and muscles loose through colder weather and reduced turnout.

Boost Immunity - to strengthen natural defenses through seasonal stress and weather changes.
