Pigeon Fever

Pigeon Fever
Case History Malarky

Picture
Breed: Arabian
Sex: Mare
Owner: D. Hopelain - North Fork, CA

In 2000, Malarky came down with “pigeon fever” (also known as psuedotuberculosis or dryland distemper) that attached itself to an internal organ.  She was treated with penicillin and we were told she had a 50-50 chance to make it.  She did not respond; it did not look good and our vet hinted that  we should be prepared to put this horse down.  We concluded the only thing that would save her was her own immune system. We contacted Gloria Garland of Whole Horse Herbs  who created an herbal blend designed to boost her immune system.  Three months later, Malarky’s symptoms were gone - the lethargy was replaced by normal activity and her weight was restored.  She has remained healthy since.

This was serious, if not critical. We discussed her condition with a veterinarian friend who, when looking at her titer scores, said “she should be dead.”

We attribute her survival to our ability to boost her immune system with the herbs Gloria prescribed.  Do not underestimate an, otherwise, healthy horse’s immune system.
