Equine Recurrent Uveitis
ERU
Case History Durango
Breed: Appaloosa/Quarter Horse
Age: 20
Sex: Gelding
Owner: Kim Dickens - Newhall, CA
Durango suffered for several years (2000-2002) with uveitis and his vision degraded rapidly. Our vet had him on aspirin therapy which I still have him on. I bought him several Guardian fly masks with 80% ultraviolet light blockers but they further limited his ability to see. His better eye was always red and inflamed and his now blind eye ran almost as much as the other eye.
My friend Russell, a long time rider in our canyon referred me to Gloria and she made a Chinese herbal powder which Durango has had daily for the last two years. His vision has not degenerated any more in the better eye. Neither eye ever runs and neither eye is red or inflamed. Now I only use a regular mesh fly mask during the fly season. I ride him on all of our regular trails every weekend. His health is great despite his limited vision. We are very happy!
