Elderberry! A local hike yields some wonderful Elderberries. We are making syrup in anticipation of the fall cold and flu season. Elderberry has been widely studied for its powerful immune-boosting properties. The berries contain chemical compounds called Anthocyanins. Found in many purple foods, Anthocyanins are known to have immunostimulant effects. Research actually shows that elderberry syrups and tinctures are a safe and cost-effective treatment for cold and flu symptoms, also very easy to make at home!

Make your own ACVMaking a fantastic ACV is very simple to do.
Use 5 to 6 apples, washed and roughly chopped. These don’t need to be perfect and or fancy. Place apples in a large gallon jar (I use a large deli pickle style jar). Add ¼ cup of sugar Cover with spring or filtered water. Leave about 2 inches of head space. Cover with a fabric cover and secure with a rubber band. This will allow fermentation and keep out bugs and impurities Let sit in a quiet, dark corner for one month. There may be some opacity in the liquid or a jelly- like layer can form on the surface. This is the vinegar’s mother. It is natural and desirable. Strain and discard the apples, bottle and seal. No need to refrigerate. We put a little love into each of our formulas, especially for Mares!Whole Horse Herbs understands that mares have hormonal challenges that require some support for them to remain in top condition. Some old ladies need help with mobility, digestion and seasonal temperature changes. Gloria Garland understands these needs and creates formulas ideally suited for our mares.
Chaste Berry or Vitex for maresOne of the most common causes for mares being moody is changes to their hormone balance. As with all animals including us, different stages of the breeding cycle will have an affect on hormone levels. In some cases where these levels can be out of balance to the point of quite dramatic mood swings.

Does your Mare suffer from: Moodiness Infertility Anxiety Nerves Confinement Support your Mares with Whole Horse Herbal products for Mares My young, rambunctious and very energetic German Shepherd struggled with focus and was often amped up on adrenalin making communication and training difficult. When he injured his leg, requiring rest, I was desperate to find a solution to help. Rest is not in this dog's vocabulary! The situation seemed impossible.
While speaking to Gloria regarding my horse, it occurred to me that perhaps she could help me with my shepherd. She prescribed Whole Horse Calm Shen for my dog. Hopeful, I mixed the herbs in with some peanut butter and followed Gloria's directions. After a couple of doses, he was able to focus and relax quietly. I have a different dog and I'm hopeful that his injury will now heal more quickly. Is it possible that he could become a couch potato? HA! Improbable... but one can hope. Thank you, Gloria, for this great solution. Ruth F. Mariposa, CA I had a friend who used to joke that her mare could get injured in a rubber room. Happily we have the excellent advise and support of Gloria Garland to help with injuries, sprains and ailments. Using an herbal approach can provide pain relief and healing support for our 4-footed friends. I use it on my dogs too.
